This student housing project at Florida A&M University is in a prime position on Gamble and Perry Street, adjacent to Bragg Stadium on the south and the Student Services Center on the east. The building serves as a gateway to the football stadium and frames the central axis with a covered arcade, creating a landscaped and hardscaped path to the stadium. The central courtyard provides a social gathering space that offers a terraced view of the football stadium during gameday events and enough space for vendors and social events. The Alumni Walk was designed to connect Gamble Street to the stadium and become an active event space during games and social events at the campus.
The new housing provides 800 beds, with each unit having a shared entry and bathroom and a private bedroom. The dormitory quads are spacious enough to accommodate student activities, and the two flanking quads are large enough to provide adequate daylight to all the rooms while fostering a sense of community and academic enclosure.
Cooper Carry collaborated with DAG Architects as an associate architect, providing design services from schematic design to construction administration.
