According to the AIA’s Women in Architecture, the number of women that “… become registered, achieve upper management levels, become partners and own architectural firms has not increased at the same rate or in the same proportion as their male architectural counterparts.” While almost half of the students in our country’s architecture programs are women, currently only 17 percent of registered architects are women.
We recognize this, and other issues around equity and inclusion in our profession, as a problem. In the last decade the number of women entering our firm and rising up its ranks has continued to increase, and we are dedicated to seeing our firm continue to grow in its diversity.
The GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum recently announced its list of the 2020 Women of Influence, a group of women across the nation who are making a “distinctive mark on commercial real estate.” They include women in the categories of Architecture & Design, Brokers, Corporate Real Estate, CRE Legal Counsel, Marketing, Development, Finance, Investment, Property Management and more.
Four women from Cooper Carry were selected as 2020 Women of Influence this year. They are:
• Alex Lopatynsky, AIA, Principal and Managing Director, New York
• Andrea Schaub, AIA, LEED AP, Washington, DC
• Anita Summers, Principal of the Johnson Studio, Atlanta
• Katherine Stone, Brand Director, Atlanta
We are proud of these women and, indeed, all of the women who contribute to our work and success at Cooper Carry.
