The Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Education Facility enhances the collaborative efforts at the Universities at Shady Grove of nine sister institutions to offer advanced degree education in high technology and medical sciences fields, and to share instructional facilities across disciplines and degree programs. The Universities of Maryland in College Park, Baltimore, and Baltimore County share the facility with the common goals of advanced education, collaboration, and curricular innovation.
The 228,000 square-foot building houses academic programs in physical therapy, dentistry, mechanical engineering, biotechnology, biological sciences, electrical engineering, environmental science and technology, and associated fields. The new building provides spaces for general instruction, scientific instruction, a full dental clinic, offices and administrative support, student support centers, and building systems and support. The design includes a central atrium gateway space, tiered classrooms, and glass enclosed labs that promote the idea of “science on display.”
