Eastern Wharf Master Plan

Savannah, GA

Savannah's architectural heritage has established the city as a place with a unique character and identity. The city's renowned organization of public squares and tightly-knit urban streets, which dates back to 1733 when General James Oglethorpe laid out the first four squares, is a testament to its distinctiveness. This architectural language contributes to downtown Savannah's authentic aesthetic, a charm we are deeply committed to preserving, ensuring the local character remains intact.

Eastern Wharf is a strategically located 58-acre mixed-use development adjacent to historic downtown Savannah, featuring 2,000 linear feet of frontage along the Savannah River. Once used for agricultural and industrial purposes, this site was the largest undeveloped area adjacent to downtown for decades. Cooper Carry designed the master plan to maximize the existing infrastructure on the property, ensuring the most effective use of resources. Our team also produced an architectural pattern book for the overall mixed-use development. This book serves as a comprehensive analysis of the character, scale, and details that make historic Savannah authentic and distinctive. It is not just a guide but a firm commitment to maintaining the area's unique charm while incorporating modern amenities, all while respecting the city’s history and culture.

Cooper Carry transitioned from the master plan to architectural design in Phases I and II of the project. This includes the mixed-use multifamily Riverworks building with ground-floor retail and public parking, a one-acre linear waterfront park, and the multifamily Pilot & Park building.
