The City of Jeffersonville sought to master plan a new canal district to create a regional destination for residents and visitors. The city turned to Cooper Carry to meet multiple objectives for this project, including:
Located adjacent to I-65, the Jeffersonville Canal District is an easily accessible, compact, mixed-use environment, planned to leverage infrastructure improvements for appropriate development at the city’s heart. Similarly, celebrating the history and culture of downtown Greenville while providing options for visitors and residents was an essential piece to the master plan.
The master plan incorporates Jeffersonville’s existing and proposed cultural assets, allowing the city to grow while maintaining and developing its authentic character. The canal and its adjacent public open spaces are envisioned as gathering and recreation places while offering ample retail, dining, and other destinations that draw in visitors and locals.
