The School of Applied Physiology at Georgia Tech focuses on research initiatives related to human biology, medicine, and health. The school offers a Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics and a Ph.D. in Applied Physiology. Researchers work with patients and research subjects to develop novel approaches for prosthetic devices and to test advancements in exercise science. Cooper Carry recently completed the cost effective, 56,350 square foot renovation that transformed the space into a state-of-the-art laboratory and office facility. Cooper Carry’s design team proposed extensive reuse of existing laboratory casework, fume hoods, MEP infrastructure, and architectural systems to meet the client’s ambitious goals for cost. Careful attention to work flow, noise, and technology was required to achieve segregation of clinical functions and flexibility. The facility includes a clinical exam space for prosthetics and orthotics, exercise physiology with an environmental controlled exercise simulation room, biochemistry labs, cognitive motor control room, human neuromuscular physiology laboratory, neurophysiology laboratory, EMI shielded PCR, procedure rooms, electrophoresis, fabrication, clinical biomechanics, CAD/CAM, x-ray, hazardous materials storage and controlled temperature/humidity environmental rooms, classrooms, and offices for grad students and faculty.
