Columbia Place Courtyard & Residence Inn is a $230 million mixed-use project consisting of a dual brand hotel and apartment building. Located at the corner of L Street and 9th Street NW in Washington D.C., the project is adjacent to the existing Walter Washington Convention Center and the new Marriott Marquis Convention Hotel. The distinctive urban infill development includes 357 Courtyard by Marriott rooms, 147 Residence Inn rooms, and 203 apartments.
A key design component of the LEED Silver project was the integration of historical row houses and existing buildings. A three-story, 160-year-old Civil War-era townhome was moved 30 feet from its original location and incorporated into the project within the dual-brand hotel. Seven additional historic buildings and the existing Lurgan Building, a historic apartment building on L Street, were restored and reused for street-level retail as part of the project plan to further enhance the residential experience and preserve the area’s historic character.
The project is supported with two levels of underground parking. Approximately 3,000 GSF of ground floor retail was placed in three of the townhomes. This project was designed and documented in a collaboration with tvsdesign and completed in 2019.
