Leadership
The Aviation Training Academy concept design supports a team-based approach to science and technical training. The goal is to ensure a steady pipeline of skilled workers into the aviation industry.
The design team developed three concepts to explore a variety of program arrangements based around the function, experience, and overall budget of the space. For instance, the multi-level design of the Interlock Concept offers spaces for traditional as well as hands-on learning. The first floor is divided, with one side dedicated to classrooms, offices, and a library. The opposite side includes a hangar with separate spaces for individualized mechanics and a locker room for students to clean up post-class. The second floor includes more classrooms as well as a conference room and student commons for informal socializing.
The interior design focuses on flow and circulation, while the exterior offers connections to nature. An interior courtyard features water features, and lush manicured areas give students and faculty a restorative space to linger during the day. Windows throughout the complex provide views to this space and put science on display.
