The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry applied Crowne Plaza’s new, modern design philosophy in the redesign of the Crowne Plaza Ravinia hotel, located in the suburbs of Atlanta. Drawing inspiration from the angular lines of the Ravinia Complex buildings, the design uses warm wood tones in repetitive linear details to help balance and soften the steel and glass structure, which was more than 20 years old.
The lobby space provides several unique lounge groupings, a large focal point reception desk, and a lobby café/bar, which seamlessly transitions from day to night. The lobby café/bar features a large back bar of midcentury modern-style millwork, bronze glass, and marble counter tops, combined with comfortable seating and custom lighting allow for a casual, yet modern space. A visual connection between the lobby level and lower level was emphasized through the use of glass and minimal metal railing, allowing for unobstructed views. In addition, a steel, concrete, and glass grand stair was added to connect the upper and lower levels.
The bar/restaurant, Parkwoods, occupies the majority of the lower level and provides optimum visuals to the beer garden. The design is a balance of classic styling in the furniture and millwork, combined with unique architectural features, like a large steel canopy, to create a ceiling plane and add intimacy in the various seating groups. The use of faux wood floors, walnut millwork, as well as accent tiles of white, gray, and blue balance a neutral color palette.
The Backyard at Parkwoods provides a calm, serene setting among the lush gardens and water features. Casual furniture, picnic tables, and backyard games keep the vibe light and playful, and serve as an extension of the modern interior spaces.
