Opry Mills

Nashville, TN

Cooper Carry was the architect for the original 1.2 million square foot mall located around a racetrack main street, with more than 200 stores, restaurants and performance-based entertainment venues that expanded and enhanced the Opryland Complex. In May of 2010, the Opry Mills mall was affected by a historic flood. In some places, the water rose up to 10 feet. Cooper Carry’s challenge was to create a finished environment, hiding the warehouse look of the roof structure that could not support additional loads. Our solution involved stretching fabric over light weight frames to mimic the look of finished drywall panels. One year and eleven months after the flood, the City of Nashville cheered at the mall’s grand re-opening.
